Monte Alegre Mill, Piracicaba, São Paulo.
Since 1819 produced sugar, with thousands of workers, mainly italian immigrants.
A neighborhood emerged near the mill, supported by the company, with all the urban facilities, including library, movie theater, church (with paintings by Antônio Volpi ), commerce and services.
In the mid 1950s, a new business plan implanted a celulose and paper factory and the mill was abandoned, just like the structure surround it, going into decadande and impacting the lives of workers and the city itself.
(the photos of this serie - by me and gabriel vasconcelos, are also gathered in a photobook ,with Poetic interventions by naila rachid)
